Even though, I am not much of a meat eater, I LOVE these. Even though the MasterCook calculations (below) put the percent of calories of fat at 49%, the original recipe (from New Dieter's Cookbook) says its only 22% (go figure). The low-fat plain yogurt is a nice condiment, but sometimes I serve it with hummus or Tzatziki (Trader Joe's sells a pretty good pre-made one).

For the Meatballs
1 large egg - beaten slightly
1/4 cup skim milk
1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
1/4 cup fresh parsley - minced
3 tablespoons onion - finely chopped
4 teaspoons sesame seeds - toasted
1 clove garlic - minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 pound lean ground beef
vegetable cooking spray
For the Sandwich
2 large pita bread rounds - halved
1/2 cup shredded lettuce
1 medium tomato - chopped
1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt

For the Meatballs

In a medium mixing bowl, combine egg, milk, breadcrumbs, parsley, onion, sesame seeds, garlic, and salt. Add ground beef. Mix well.

Shape mixture into 24 meatballs. Spray a large skillet with vegetable cooking spray. Heat over medium high heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides. Reduce heat to low and cook until meat is no longer pink (8-10 minutes).

For the Sandwich

Place meatballs in pita halves. Add lettuce and tomato. Serve with yogurt.
