Some people deep fry these sweet and savory sandwiches, but I think they are satisfying enough just grilled over the stovetop.
3 tablespoons honey mustard
8 white bread slices
4 ounces Swiss cheese - sliced
1/4 pound ham - sliced
1/3 cup milk, 1% lowfat
2 large egg whites
vegetable cooking spray
2 teaspoons confectioner's sugar
raspberry jam or maple syrup - optional
Spread a bit of the honey mustard over each bread slice. Place 1 slice of cheese over each of 4 bread slices; distribute ham slices over cheese. Top with remaining bread slices.
In a shallow bowl, whisk milk and egg whites. Dip both sides of each sandwich into milk mixture, removing any excess milk mixture with your fingers.
Heat a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium high heat. Cook sandwiches until lightly browned and the cheese has melted (4 minutes per side). Sprinkle sandwiches with confectioner's sugar and top with either jam or maple syrup.
